betty Jo Currie
When Betty Jo Currie entered the travel business in 1994, her desire was to identify the most exotic locales in the world - and then help people reach them.
A Kenyan safari in 1995 reminded her of "home", and she determined to make "luxury, adventure, exotic travel" her tagline and the root of her business. Africa was her first experience observing the transformation that occurs when curious, often sophisticated travelers meet often simple people in far away destinations – the common interests, the shared needs (to protect family, to grow in knowledge), the potential for change (for both traveler and local). Her journeys to all corners of Africa, as well as repeated travel to India, Chile, Argentina, and Bhutan led her to the conviction that globally we are far more alike than different. She has lately fallen in love with Asia and Indonesia, and has developed relationships with on-sites who allow travelers to visit deeply and leave their dollars in the hands of locals.
Betty Jo arranges similar travel for her friends and clients, working primarily with on-sites and focusing on fair pricing, emerging properties and places, and conservation of culture and animals. Betty Jo's personal mission is to encourage and support destinations and companies which offer life changing experiences and long term models for education and employment. Her work ranges from family travel, to large safaris under canvas, to small women's groups, with an eye toward the outcome for all those involved, from the tips for staff to the large philanthropic gifts that can result when clients are extraordinarily moved by the places they've been and the people they've seen.
